Effort by the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Free Zones Authority, Micheal Okyere Baafi, to unseat Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah seems to have suffered a major blow as a result of a comment made by veteran Ghanaian Journalist, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako Jnr.
The Managing Editor of the New Crusading Guide Newspaper, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako Jnr., has said he will be shocked if delegates of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the New Juaben South Constituency in the Eastern Region votes against Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah, the incumbent Member of Parliament in the upcoming Parliamentary Primaries on April 25, this year.
According to the veteran Journalist, Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah is an “asset” for the NPP in Parliament due to his competence in matters relating to finance and economy.
“I will be shocked if NPP delegates refuse or fail (or both) to vote for continuity! Mark is a great asset to the NPP in legislative matters! Trust me!!”
He added “He’s a big brain in legislative matters; especially the financials! Parliamentary NPP would be weaker without him in the House! Continuity endorsed!”
Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako was contributing to a Facebook discussion on the competence of the lawmaker on Tuesday, March 10, 2020, on the timeline of a pseudo-Facebook account “The Duke of Gh”.
Replying a post by Deputy National Youth Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress, Edem Agbana who also post a comment which sort to discredit the MP over his comment of the GETFund Scholarship, Abdul Malik Kwaku Baako said “You’re entitled to your interpretation of whatever he might have said relative to matters arising out of the GETFund Performance Audit matter. That’s your democratic right. My focus is on his legislative competence, prowess and contributions. Please remember that there’s no perfect person out there! Mark, I repeat, is FIT FOR PURPOSE @PARLIAMENTARY BUSINESS! My sincere position! Let’s agree to disagree! No big deal! “.
Dr. Mark Assibey Yeboah is keenly being contested for the second time by the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Free Zones Authority, Micheal Okyere Baafi having been defeated in 2015 primaries of the Party.
Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah has been a Member of Parliament since 2013.
Apart from being the chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament, he also doubles as the chairman of Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs committee.
On the other hand, Mr. Baafi is a businessman with over 15 years working experience and has vast experience in Strategic Marketing, Corporate Decision – Making and Customer Relationship.
The New Juaben South in this primaries is one parliamentary slot that is expected to be fiercely fought for which is currently being occupied by Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah, the Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament.
Dr. Assibey-Yeboah is expected to be challenged by the Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Board, Mr. Michael Okyere Baafi.
Mr. Baafi lost his bid to enter Parliament on the ticket of the New Juaben South Constituency four years ago after he was defeated by Dr. Assibey-Yeboah at the primaries.
However, ahead of this year’s primaries, Mr. Baafi and his staunch supporters are optimistic that his second coming will be the waterloo of the incumbent MP.
Followers of Dr. Assibey-Yeboah have described the expected contest as a foregone conclusion in favour of their candidate.
According to them, this year’s primaries is going to be a “cool chop” judging from the fact that their candidate is better placed for a landslide victory.
The high hopes in the MP’s camp are further motivated by the claim that he is better prepared this time around, unlike the last primaries where the odds were against him, yet he won.
However, there is confidence in the camp of Mr. Baafi that this time around, the opportunity to get him elected as the parliamentary candidate will not elude him.
