Two Police officers in Afram Plains in the Eastern Region have been interdicted by the Police administration for allegedly taking bribe from some suspects smuggling large quantities of marijuana from the area.
Bryt FM has gathered that,the first Police officer identified only as Evans was given a tip off about the the suspects, trailed and arrested them but negotiated and took about Ghc4,950 from the suspects and released them to go.
The second police officer,Joshua, was notified about the corrupt action of his colleague. He also allegedly took his share of the booty and freed the suspects.
Unfortunately, the information got to the anti -armed robbery squad stationed in the area by the Inspector General of Police ,Dr.George Akufo Dampare who chased the suspects and arrest them and impounded the container truck.
The police officers were later picked up and handed over to Mpraeso Divisional command.
A report was sent to the IGP and they have been interdicted.
However residents in Afram Plains who already have frosty and mistrust relationship with the police are agitating fearing a coverup as the case in previous situation .
Afram plains is faced with narcotics planting and smuggling as well as robbery menace.
However the robbery menace has reduced significantly due to the intervention of the IGP.
