Former President John Dramani Mahama has taken swipe at the Akufo-Addo administration for the country’s economic challenges.
Mr. Mahama said despite his administration’s hard work, Ghanaians chose to vote for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2016 general elections because of the “lofty” promises made by the then opposition party leader in the belief that their problems would be rectified.
Yet, he claims that the Akufo-Addo administration has disappointed Ghanaians.
Speaking at his campaign launch in Ho on Thursday, March 2, he said “For the 2024 elections which I consider to be the most important and defining poll of our time, I have not taken this step lightly, it has been the product of months of prayer, broad consultations and sober reflections.
On Thursday, March 2, Mr Mahama announced his candidacy to join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential primaries ahead of the 2024 national elections in Ghana.
“This government has been clueless and in many ways callous the unthinkable has happened, and our country today is broken on all fronts, Ghana is bankrupt.
“We are saddled with debts we simply can’t pay, we have suffered the global humiliation of defaulting on our debts and being downgraded by all credit rating agencies to the lowest level ever seen in our history”
He added “Our economy is in the worst ever shape with suffering and pain on an unprecedented level”.
