The Savannah Regional Director of Education, Hajia Katumi Natogmah Attah paid a working visit to interact with teachers who are undergoing the Training of Trainers at the Damango Senior High School as part of the Girls-In-ICT program.
She was full of praise for the Ministry for undertaking such initiative in the region for teachers to benefit and impact others.
The initiative, she said would encourage, motivate and empower the 1000 girls to be trained.
Hajia Katumi said, the initiative has come to compliment the regional education’s effort, adding, that the initiative will not only benefit the selected 100 teachers, but will have rippling impact for the region as a whole.
She therefore encouraged the teachers to take advantage of the training, pay attention to instructions and seek clarifications where necessary.
“Count yourselves among the fortunate ones and be patient. Learning is for your individual capacity building as well”, she noted.
Hajia Katumi assured the ministry and it partners that knowledge being impacted to the teachers would be put to good use.
The Director for Policy, Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (PPME), Mr. Emmanuel Ofori, briefed the Director on the different components under the GIICT and that each comes with various competitions and presentation of Awards as well as certificates of participation.
The Project Manager at the Ghana-India Kofi Annan Centre of Excellence in ICT (KACE), Madam Priscilla Hope, said the teachers were taken through the basics, features of the scratch application and language of programming.
They were also introduced to creating algorithms for programs. They learnt how to move Sprite (character) from one place to the other and detect the edges of the display or the stage.
They were also taken through conditional statements ( IF & ElSE);
these statements were used to create decisions in a game for catching fish which they created themselves and played.
