The National Petroleum Authority, NPA has assured Ghanaians of ensuring quality petroleum products are put on the market for customers to buy.
It has also emphasised on its commitment to ensuring that Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) comply with the necessary regulations laid down by the Authority.
Speaking at a media encounter at Koforidua in the Eastern region, Head of Corporate Affairs at NPA, Madam Maria Edith Ocquaye, indicated the workshop has become important at the time where there have been several complaints over citing of fuel and gas stations in most areas across the country.
Mr. Dominic Aboagye, Head of Planning in his presentation revealed his outfit has been proactive of it’s mandate and therefore called on the media to continue their support in educating and sensitising the public on what to do anytime they encounter issues with fuel quality and other related issues.
Responding to a question by Mr. Atakora Mensah of Nkunim FM in relation to the current state of the Tema Oil Refinery, Mr. Dominic Aboagye stated that the facility is in good condition but has been shut down due to lack of crude oil for sometime now.
He was, however, quick to add that TOR is currently in partnership with a private entity and optimistic would soon get delivery of crude oil to process for the local market.
“Actually construction has started and it is expected to be completed by end of the third quarter. It is a private investment but we hope when completed, will help deal with some of the challenges we face in that sector as well” Mr. Aboagye response to a question by another journalist.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional manager of NPA David Ohene Kena retreated his outfit continuous surveillance at the various fuel and gas stations to ensure the right thing is done to the benefit of all stakeholders.
He warned distributors against infiltration of Petroleum products onto the markets for customers to fall victims to their criminal activities.
Mr. Kena called on journalists to always support his outfit to report on such issues and also help identify some of the anomalies for the necessary actions to be taken.
The one-day media encounter was graced by Board Member of NPA and a renowned broadcaster, Mr. Kwami Sefa Kayi and other officials from the NPA.
