A total of 70 Youth have been selected for training at Asamankese from Monday, 8th to Friday,19th May 2023 in the West Akyem Municipality of the Eastern Region under the Ghana Jobs and Skills of the YouStart initiative.
The 70 youth selected for the training have been divided into two for the training and it is being rolled out in three phases, comprising a district model where beneficiaries will be selected through special help desks in the 216 districts across the country; a commercial model, with banks on board, and the faith model, which will work with faith-based organisations to identify qualified candidates, according to Ghana Enterprise Agency Director for West Akyem, Madam Bernice Nyarko.
She said the training is ongoing in all Municipal and Districts across the country and urged those who have been selected for the training to take advantage of it to get Government support to expand their Businesses or start up tools to create jobs.
In the Eastern Region, a total of 2,320 Youth have been selected from the 33 Assemblies which compresis 565 males and 1,755 Females.
Across the Country, Ashanti and Greater Accra Region have the highest numbers, while Oti and Ahafo Region have the least numbers.
In the Ashanti Region,4,608 were selected and 4,084 Youth from Greater Accra Region, while Oti and Ahafo Region have 420 and 544 Youth selected respectively.
The three-month training is expected to equip the participants with relevant skills, access to market, technology and financial support to enable them to start and grow their businesses.
The beneficiaries were selected out of the over 288,000 applicants who applied through the portal meant to receive applications from potential beneficiaries of the YouStart initiative.
It seeks to target 50 per cent women, persons with disability and unemployed youth as well as existing small businesses owned by school dropouts between the ages of 18 and 40.
The project is being implemented by the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) with financing and technical support to the tune of GH¢400 million from the World Bank.
