Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament and the MP for the Effutu Constituency, Alexander Afenyo- Markin has hinted that research have revealed social media is indeed gradually destroying Ghanaian school children, hence asking parents/ guardians to wake up as a matter of urgency to deal with the menace.
According to him, the addiction of social media on children have now resulted into poor performance of students in their academic work and also leading them into unwanted social vices such as sex, thievery, drug abuse etc.
Addressing a gathering during the launch of 2023 Best Teacher Awards and Quiz Competition at the Forecourt of the Ghana Education Service in Winneba disclosed that, many parents do not know the effects of social media usage on their wards, hence allow them to do whatever they want with their mobile phones thereby going a long way to be more addict to the media.
This, he is calling on all parents rise up and stand against it else we will one day end up by social media destroying children in this country.
Hon Alexander Afenyo Markin has however appealed to Assembly members in the country to champion this call to be able help protect children from this menace.
