Amanase, a fast developing peri-urban community in Ayensuano District along the Accra to Kumasi highway in Eastern region has initiated a police station project to boost security in the area.
Despite the strategic location of the community and influx of real estate developers and industries increasing it’s crime target vulnerability,the community does not have police station.
The community therefore relies on Suhum Police Command for security.
Minor crimes such as pilfering, burglary, theft are common in the community.
A Gh25,000 worth of iron rods belonging to the Acting Chief of Amanase Obengfo Addo Agyekum for instance were recently stolen.
Speaking during sod cutting ceremony for the commencement of the Project , the Gyaasehene of Amanase who double as Acting chief Obengfo Addo Agyekum said the construction of the Police station is for the good of the community and investors hence called on residents to support the project to be completed on time.
He announced that the community has earmarked over 100 acre plot of land to Ghana Police Service for Construction Police training school to give the recruits conducive training environment.
Suhum Police commander Chief Superintendent Issah Kantona lauded the police station initiative.
He said many communities are without police station stressing that police visibility is very important in fighting crime therefore such interventions will help the police deal with crimes in communities.
Godfred Kwabena Obeng project coordinator said the police station is being built to standard of district police command status therefore will have DOVVSU office , male ,female and juvenile cells , armoury, conference room, other ancillary offices,washroom among others.
He called on all natives of Amanase both home and abroad to support the initiative.
He is hoping that the project will reach advance stage by the end of the year.
