The Public Accounts Committee has ended its Middle Zone Public Hearing in Sunyani.
After sitting continuously for four (4) days to consider the Reports of the Auditor-General on the Management and Utilisation of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) and other statutory funds for the year ended 31st December 2021, Report of the Auditor-General on the Public Accounts of Ghana- Pre tertiary Education Institutions for the year ended 31st December 2021 and Report of the Auditor-General on the Accounts of District Assemblies for the Financial year ended 31st December 2021, the Committee adjourned its sitting today in Sunyani with the expectation of continuing its Hearing in Ho, Volta Region.
The Committee invited Institutions that had been cited in the Auditor-General’s 2021 Reports from five (5) Regions namely Western North Region, Ashanti Region, Bono Region, Bono East Region and Ahafo Region.
Even though the Chairman of the Committee was largely impressed with the efforts of some institutions to avoid committing infractions, he was not enthused about the situation of uncompleted projects especially those that are being sponsored by the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETfund) in their localities.
He reiterated that the Committee would make recommendations to Parliament to take decisions on all delayed GETfund projects.
Another challenge being faced by most of the District Assemblies and Municipalities was the delayed attitude of Zoomlion Company Limited in supplying the Assemblies with logistics and machines they have requested for eventhough payment had already been deducted from source.
The Chairman also used the opportunity to remind the Assemblies of Parliament’s recent decision to the Assemblies not to renew the fumigation contract the Assemblies / Municipalities have signed with Zoomlion.
He urged the Assemblies to quickly contact their lawyers to initiate actions to deactivate the automatic renewal clause in the contracts between them and Zoomlion Company Limited.
The Assemblies expressed concerns about Zoomlion Company not supplying them with the required number of trucks, waste bins and other equipment, which has affected their work.
Banda, Dorma Central, Dorma East, Dorma West, Jaman, North, Sunyani Municipal, Tain, Wenchi Municioal, Berekum East, Pru East, Sene West, Atebubu Amantin, Asunafo North and Tano South were among the Assemblies and Municipalities that appeared before the Committee today.
