In the wake of a startling incident where individuals believed to be affiliated with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stormed the studios of UTV during a live show on Saturday, October 7, 2023, Lawrence Nana Asiamah Hanson, commonly known as Bullgod and a regular panelist on UTV’s Showbiz, has made shocking disclosures.
Bullgod revealed that the Deputy National Communication Director for the NPP, Ernest Owusu Bempeh, had previously called into the show to issue threats.
Speaking on Accra based Starr FM with on Monday, October 9, 2023, Bullgod expressed that such developments were not unfamiliar to the panelists and the TV station.
“We will not be intimidated in any way, especially those of us on the panel because this is an attack on our freedom to express ourselves. Everybody that sits on that show is in danger, and we will not allow this to be swept under the carpet. We won’t allow that,” Bullgod emphasized.
He further explained that instances of intimidation had occurred before, with certain individuals reaching out to UTV’s management.
Bullgod recalled an incident where Owusu Bempah, formerly associated with Ghana Gas, had called into the show to threaten him.
Bullgod asserted that these incidents had been building up, making the invasion of UTV’s studios on Saturday an alarming culmination.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of sixteen individuals in connection with the UTV studio invasion.
In a brief statement, the Police noted that they are currently assisting with investigations, following a complaint from the Despite Media Group and the Ministry of Information about the invasion.
