The President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has extended his commendation to Aburi Hene, also known as Akuapeman Adontenhene Otoobour Gyan Kwasi, for his pivotal role in resolving a chieftaincy dispute in Okuapemman that had arisen over the eligibility of the Okuapehene.
President Akufo-Addo attributed the prevailing peace and unity in Okuapemman to the instrumental role played by the Aburi Hene in soothing tensions between the two factions embroiled in the dispute.
The President emphasized that peace and unity are essential components of development, and he encouraged the people of Okuapemman to continue fostering these qualities.
President Akufo-Addo made this acknowledgment during the culmination of the 35th Anniversary of the Akuapem Adonten Odwira, held at the Aburi Botanical Garden.
The theme for the ceremony was “Positioning Akuapem Adonteng as a Tourism Destination in Ghana.”
The President further praised the Chiefs and the people of Okuapem for their recognition of the government’s contributions to Okuapeman regarding infrastructure development, particularly road infrastructure, and for sharing their achievements with the entire Ghanaian population.
In response, Aburi Hene and Okuapem Adonteng Hene Otoobour Gyan Kwasi expressed their gratitude to the government. They specifically commended the Member of Parliament for Okuapem South, Hon. O.B Amoah, for effectively serving the people and ensuring that Okuapem receives its fair share of national development.
Otoobour Gyan Kwasi, while acknowledging the government’s support, also appealed to the President to allocate 10 acres of land within the Aburi Botanical Garden to the Aburi traditional authority for the construction of an ultra-modern palace, with the aim of enhancing tourism in the area.
