Deputy Minister of Education incharge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) and the Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency, Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo popularly called ‘Hajia Kande’, has reiterated that, dynamism in vocational skills must be embraced for job sustainability.
Speaking at the 9th graduation ceremony of “Do Wo Yonko” Training Centre, a subsidiary of All Smile Together Foundation, on the 9th December, 2023 at the Centre’s premises in Akyem Maase of the Abuakwa South Municipality of the Eastern Region of Ghana, the Deputy Minister emphasized that, vocational skills acquired today is subjected to change in the near future hence the need for the graduates to be humble enough to learn to unlearn the skills to stay relevant in their job space.
“To remain in business, you have to be dynamic, you must be ready to learn new development in your job arena because the skills acquired today will not remain same as time wades on hence the need for all the graduates to be humble enough to learn to unlearn their skills to make way for new ideas, and develop them for them to be always relevant in their businesses”. Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo said.
Honourable Gifty Twum-Ampofo further admonished the graduates to keep their appointments, set priorities, be proactive and see vocational skills and training as a viable job venture for sustainable development.
She further thanked the Foundation for complementing government’s efforts in ensuring quality vocational skills training and making it a business and added that, she is hopeful that the graduates as they go out will further train others for socio-economic development of the country as a whole.
Hon Gifty Twum-Ampofo, presented industrial sewing equipment to the foundation to augment their activities.
Hon Joseph Opare also known as Nana Birdman, reagent of Kibi Pano, Assemblyman of Pano-sawmill Electoral Area and CEO of Simple Birdman Foundation, speaking as the chairman for the function, commended All Smile Together Foundation for their immense contributions in mitigating the youth unemployment situation in the country by providing the youth with quality vocational training.
He further urged the graduates to use the skills acquired to better their lives and that of the people of their respective communities and added that, employability skills is the surest way for sustainable economic growth and development.
Nana Birdman presented a cash sum of three thousand Ghana Cedis (GHc 3,000) to the Foundation and used the occasion to admonish the youth to celebrate in moderation this year’s yuletide and shun away from all social vices.
According to Mr Seth Gyimah, Administrator of Do Wo Yonko Training Centre, the Akua Judith Scholz led All Smile Together Foundation, a non governmental organization which has been in existence for ten (10) years , has trained eight (8) batches of students in fashion and dress making.
The training centre is graduating the ninth batch of thirteen (13) graduates.
He hinted that, plans are far advanced to include other male dominated artisanal training such as carpentry and joinery, automobile engineering, building and construction etc for the females to be enrolled on.
Mr Seth Gyimah called on cooperate bodies, Institutions, individuals, non governmental organizations and well meaning people to come to their aid.
The event was characterised by fashion show, poetry recitals and choreography.
Also present at the function were, Nana Twum-Ampofo, Board Chairman of Do Wo Yonko Training Centre, Nana Addo Boateng II, Amankrado of Akyem Maase, Mr Michael Addae, Akyem Maase Methodist Basic School Headmaster and the General Public.
