A group calling itself Concerned Youth of Bechem in Ahafo Region has formally notified the Tano South Police of their intention to hold a peaceful demonstration.
The residents of Bechem and its environs have expressed their concerns over three main grievances affecting their community.
Firstly, the frequent and unannounced power outages have inconvenienced residents, causing disturbances to daily lives and business operations.
The second concern revolves around billing practices, where disconnections, mandated by the Volta River Authority (VRA), are executed just three days after billing, causing financial strain on many households.
Lastly, the fluctuation and sudden cuts in power have resulted in severe damage to numerous electrical appliances, imposing unexpected repair or replacement costs on residents.
The organizers of the demonstration, scheduled for December 21, 2023, from 10 o’clock am to 12 noon, have outlined the route to march from Bechem station through principal streets to the Municipal Assembly.
The plan is to meet with the Municipal Chief Executive and conclude the march at the VRA office to present a petition addressing the persistent problems.
The organizers, in their notice, assure that the demonstration will be conducted peacefully within the confines of the law.
They have also requested police presence to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of the event.
The Concerned Youth of Bechem led by the converners -Appiah Joseph , Kwashiga Sitsofe Adjorlolo and Simon Agyemang hopes that this demonstration will draw attention to their grievances and prompt swift and effective action to rectify the electricity-related issues in their community.
