Samuel Osei Sarkodie, the Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party in the New Juaben North Constituency has made strides in sports following a successful gala competition.
Sports, particularly football have undeniably become a great avenue of peacebuilding, community cohesion and economic prospects for young talented people in Ghana and worldwide.
However, the fast-rising Youth Organizer embarked on a community football gala competition in his constituency as he aimed to unearth talents to aid Ghana football at large.
Six communities namely, Oyoko, Effiduase, Jumapo, Suhyen, Akwadum, and Asokore participated in the maiden gala competition held at the Asokore Methodist school park.
Asokore triumphed in the competition after beating Suhyen on penalties to clinch the trophy following a 1-1 stalemate in regular time.
Having emerged as champions, Asokore received a whooping amount of GHC3000 as prize money together with a trophy and gold medals whereas runners up, Suhyen took home GHC2000 and silver medals.
Oyoko, who finished third in the competition received GHC1000 plus bronze medals.
It important to note that each community received appearance fees during each matchday whiles players, who clinched man of the match awards in each game received cash prize.
Speaking after the successful event, the highly respected youth organizer expressed gratitude to constituents particularly the youth for committing to his maiden football gala competition whiles promising to do more.
“I’m grateful to all the communities for participating in this gala. It’s being a successful competition and I’m grateful to all for the massive support. This is the beginning of many great things to happen in our constituency. I’m a huge fan of football and that motivated me to embark on such initiative” he said.
“We did this to promote some talents in the constituency. The New Juaben North is blessed with enormous talents and I think, with the right support we can get great players from this constituency” he added.
Osei Sarkodie then expressed gratitude to fellow youth organizers and the Eastern Regional youth organizer for gracing the event.
“I thank the regional youth organizer and constituency youth organizers for the support throughout the competition” he concluded.
