Heaps of uncollected refuse have taken over several lorry stations in Koforidua, creating an eyesore and raising serious health concerns.
The most affected area is the Kumasi Lorry Station, which also serves as a terminal for other destinations, including Adukrom, Anyinam, Nkawkaw, Tafo, Akropong, Nkurakan, Asesewa, and Takoradi.
As the largest and most active lorry station in Koforidua, the five-day accumulation of rubbish has not only reduced space for vehicles to park but is also posing health risks to commuters and drivers at the station.
“The rubbish has not been collected for five days. We are even struggling to find space to park our vehicles,” lamented Nana Ansah, a driver at the station, during an interview with Bryt FM.
The collection of refuse in the New Juaben South Municipality is the responsibility of Zoomlion Ghana Limited, which has a contract with the Municipal Assembly. However, the delay in waste management has led to a critical situation at one of Koforidua’s key transportation hubs, sparking concerns among both drivers and passengers.
Authorities are urged to address the situation promptly to prevent further inconvenience and potential health hazards.
