Former football icon Mohammed Polo has raised concerns about the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) stadium ban, saying it is a total embarrassment considering Ghana’s pedigree in football.
The continental football governing body has cracked the whip on Ghana, imposing a ban on the Baba Yara Stadium, the only venue currently approved for international matches in the country due to its “unsuitable playing field.”
However, the Black Stars will not be unable to host the remaining 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches at home. The team will now have to play their home games at neutral venues on the continent.
Speaking on Bryt FM’s Wadwuma Ne Sen mid-morning show, the legendary Ghanaian footballer express his disappointment, describing the situation as a total embarrassment.
“It’s unfortunate that a football nation like Ghana cannot boast of a standard stadium to honour our home games. CAF’s ban is a total embarrassment. Why should this happen to Ghana” he quizzed.
According to reports, the Ghana FA are considering hosting Sudan in Togo or Ivory Coast next month.
The Black Stars commenced their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on a poor note, succumbing to a home defeat against Angola followed by a 1-1 stalemate against Niger in September.
Ghana will face Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in a doubleheader in October. The upcoming games will be crucial for Otto Addo and his charges following a sloppy start to the qualifiers.
