The Koforidua Technical University (KTU) chapter of the Technical University Senior Administrators Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has joined the nationwide strike declared by the association effective today Thursday, September 27, 2024.
The strike comes in response to the government’s failure to fulfill obligations under the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and to implement revised allowances for senior members of public universities.
In a notice addressed to the Vice-Chancellor of KTU, TUSAAG-KTU announced its full support of the nationwide action. “We wish to serve Management this notice that TUSAAG-KTU Chapter members are in full support of the nationwide strike and will observe accordingly till further notice,” said Emmanuel Opoku Debrah, Vice-Chairman of TUSAAG-KTU, in the notice.
The association expressed frustration with the government’s inaction, which it says has left senior administrative staff without the improved conditions and allowances promised under the CBA. “The strike is a result of the Government’s disregard for obligations under the Collective Bargaining Agreement and failure to implement revised allowances for senior members of public universities, of which Koforidua Technical University is of no exemption,” the notice further stated.
TUSAAG leadership also attached the nationwide declaration notice as part of their communication to the university’s management.
The strike will affect senior administrative staff across technical universities in the country.
The action industrial action is set to continue indefinitely until the government resolves the outstanding issues, which TUSAAG says are critical to the welfare of its members.
This development adds to growing pressure on the government to resolve ongoing disputes with university staff unions over working conditions and compensation.
