The Muslim community in Anweaso, Denkyembour District of the Eastern Region, is calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene in the mysterious disappearance of 25-year-old Laliatu Danjuma.
Laliatu went missing after a confrontation with a man, Kwadwo Ahenfie, over a farm boundary dispute on October 7, 2024.
According to Laliatu’s uncle, Alidu Issah, the young woman returned home from her farm that day with multiple injuries, claiming she had been attacked by Ahenfie, who shares a boundary with her farm.
Laliatu narrated that she fought back and managed to escape, sustaining several injuries in the process.
Her wrist beads were torn during the altercation, but despite her injuries, she later decided to return to the farm to retrieve her belongings. She never returned.
The suspect, Kwadwo Ahenfie, was arrested by the Akwatia police the following day.
However, he was released the same evening after confessing to having fought with Laliatu over the land dispute.
His release has angered the community, especially after Ahenfie’s family reportedly celebrated his return, throwing a party and decorating themselves in white powder to mark what they called his “victory.”
This perceived injustice has sparked outrage in the Anweaso community.
“We are disappointed in the police for releasing the suspect so easily. We want the IGP to take over this case and launch a proper investigation,” said a frustrated family member.
Laliatu’s mother, Adiza Danjuma, has also called on the government and the Denkyembour District Chief Executive to intervene, pleading for justice for her missing daughter.
The anger has spilled over to the youth in the Muslim community, who have warned that they may take the law into their own hands if swift action is not taken. “If the authorities do not act quickly, we will take matters into our own hands and deal with the suspect ourselves,” one of the angry youth leaders said.
