The Kwahu traditional council have affirmed the destoolment of Daaasebre Akuamoah Agyepong II, Kwahumanhene known in private life as Eugene Asante.
At a crunch meeting held at the Abetifi Palace on Monday, October 21, the Traditional Council made up of the Benkum, Nifa , Adonten, Kyidom and Okwawu Gyaase divisions agreed to the destoolment of Kwahumanhene.
The divisional chiefs also approved Abetifihene Nana Akyeamfour Asiedu Agyeman III as the acting Kwahuhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area.
The Traditional Council has meanwhile rejected plea by Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong III.
The Queen mother of Kwahu, Nana Adwoa Gyamfuah III told the media after the meeting that, “Yesterday we heard that, Kwahumanhene who has been destooled has sneaked to the palace at Abene under heavily armed police personnel deployed to the community. Rituals have been performed to destool him so Nana Baah Acheamfuor has reaffirmed it. So the public should take note that he is no longer Kwahuhene. We have nothing to do with him. All Kwahu citizens should join as to select new Kwahuhene for enstoolment to facilitate development in Kwahu. Acheamfuor Asiedu Agyemang is now Acting Kwahuhene”
The decision follows rituals and customary rites performed during the weekend purportedly destooling Kwahuhene Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II over alleged involvement in fraudulent acts.
The Kwahumanhene however denied being destooled.
On October 11,2024 , a group known as Concerned Youth of Kwahu in Eastern Region petitioned the Kwahu Traditional Council, to trigger processes to destool Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II (Kwahuhene) after allegations of extortion and fraud forced him to resign from his position as Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank (ADB)
The group claims that Kwahuhene’s conduct at ADB has tainted the reputation of Kwahu stool.
Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, resigned on Friday after being accused of extorting GHC 2,406,000.00 from a customer of ADB.
Hundreds of youth in Kwahu on Saturday morning embarked on a peace march to petition the the Paramount Queen Mother (Kwahu Hemaa) Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III, and the Kwahu Adontenhene, Akyeamfour Asiedu Agyeman III.
In the petition, signed by Mr. Ayim Benjamin, Acting Chairman of the Concerned Youth of Kwahu, and Etena Abusuapanin Kwabena Boateng of Abetifi/Kumasi, the Concerned Youth expressed disappointment over the damage caused by the misconduct of Kwahumanhene to Kwahu’s reputation
“We, the youth of Kwahu, with heavy hearts, express our utmost shock at the turn of events leading to the resignation of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II as Board Chairman of ADB,” the petition reads.
The youth were demanding urgent action from the Kwahu Traditional Council to protect the dignity of Kwahu’s chieftaincy and restore the kingdom’s image.
“We are respectfully requesting the Kwahu Hemaa and Kwahu Adontenhene to take decisive action to restore the sanctity of the Kingdom of Kwahu,” they stated.
The Concerned Youth of Kwahu gave the traditional leaders a seven-day ultimatum to address their concerns, warning that if no action is taken, they will explore other legal and traditional means to press home their demands.
