Ahead of the December 7, 2024, elections, the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Seth Kwame Acheampong, has commenced a peace tour to eleven paramountcies in the region.
The tour aimed to raise awareness about the critical role of chiefs, religious leaders, and people living in traditional areas in promoting peace and stability before, during, and after the 2024 elections.
The groundbreaking initiative by REGSEC was to interact with traditional leaders in the various jurisdictions in the Eastern Region.
Addressing traditional leaders at Abetifihene’s palace as part of the tour, Hon. Seth Acheampong stated that democracy contributes greatly to the development of nations.
The Minister indicated that democracy allows the voice of every individual to contribute to decision-making, urging the chiefs to uphold the democracy the nation is enjoying.
Hon. Seth Acheampong emphasized the importance of maintaining peace during and after the forthcoming general elections.
Hon. Seth Acheampong called on the chiefs and religious leaders to use their platforms to also sensitize their people and promote peace.
Abetifihene and the Acting Kwahuhene of the Kwahu Traditional Area, Nana Akyeamfour Asiedu Agyeman III, acknowledged the effort by the Eastern Regional Minister for the peace tour initiative to the traditional leaders.
Nana Akyeamfour Asiedu Agyeman III called on Ghanaians to protect the peace of the country by desisting from violent acts during and after the election.
He disclosed that measures are underway to install new Kwahuhene in the coming days.
The Regional Coordinating Council, through the Security and Intelligence Agencies Act, 2020 (Act 1030), is mandated to ensure maintenance of public safety, peace, and security in the region.
Eastern REGSEC will extend its tour to eleven paramountcies in the region to affirm its readiness to ensure public safety.
