A.D.O. I Mr. Victor Gyan the Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service in the Bono East Region has revealed that some unknown unscrupulous persons were obstructing their Personnel from fighting the devastating fire that engulfed part of the Techiman Central Market on Sunday night, burning over 100 stalls and containers to ashes and leaving traders in anguish.
The fire which started around 9:15 PM destroyed goods worth millions of Ghana cedis with fire Personnel struggling to contain the fast-spreading blaze.
Speaking in an interview with the Media in Techiman, ADO I Victor Gyan said about four Fire Tenders from nearby towns came to support the two in Techiman to help quench the fire but unfortunately some unidentified persons were cutting their water holes which made it difficult for their personnel to work.
For her part, ACFO II Rev Naomi Ofori–Adubea Sarpong the Bono East Regional Fire Commander said despite these challenges, her men were able to bring the raging fire under control after about three hours of intense fighting to prevented it from spreading to other parts of the Techiman Central market.
She explained that the congested layout of the market posed significant challenges for fire fighters attempting to contain the flames.
Meanwhile, some victims who lost all their investments tearfully appealed for help.
