The Eastern Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service ACFO 1 Timothy Osafo Affum has revealed that the region recorded 876 incidents which comprised of 749 fire outbreaks in 2024.
According to ACFO 1 Timothy Osafo Affum, this is an increase of 24.8% over the 2023 figure of 600 incidents attributing the increase to the rampant bush burning in the region.
Additionally, he indicated that the region also recorded 127 Road Traffic Collision incidents in 2024 as against 118 in 2023.
ACFO 1 Timothy Osafo Affum however enumerated some key fire safety measures the region intends to initiate to combat fire outbreaks in 2025.
The measures includes the establishment of a committee to ensure the enforcement of (L.I 1724) Fire Precautions Premises Regulation as Amended in (L.I 2249).
He also noted that the region is also forming two Specialized Teams comprising a Fire Fighting Team and a Rescue Team to Patrol key public structures , institutions and communities all day round to help avert any possible causes of fire outbreaks in the Eastern region.
ACFO 1 Timothy Osafo Affum made the disclosure during the End of Year Get Together / the Send Off Ceremony for the Outgoing Eastern Regional Commander of the Ghana National Fire Service ACFO 1 Jennifer Naa Yarley Quaye.
After receiving a citation and awards in commemoration of her Send Off Ceremony , the Outgoing Eastern Regional Fire Commander ACFO 1 Jennifer Naa Yarley Quaye commended the entire Regional Fire Command for submitting to her discipline leadership style which led to a lot of successes during her tenure.
She urged them to equally give same support to her successor ACFO 1 Timothy Osafo Affum to lift the image of the Eastern Regional Fire Command.
