The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Iddie Adams has expressed his determination to address hooliganism in sports to enhance in a long-term stadium experience for spectators.
He said this when he officially assumed office on Monday.
He convened a meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to discuss matters relating to stadium security and the progress of football in the country.
The Minister directed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to step up its “say no to hooliganism” campaign and enhance the education of football fans, players and officials to comport themselves at match venues to forestall any future occurrence.
He added that he would continue to regularly engage with the association to enhance stadium attendance and bring back life to football.
Mr Adams called on the Chief Director of the Ministry, together with the GFA, to constitute a team to re-assess the suitability of match venues for league matches across the country and agree on which venues meet the minimum standard per regulations.
He added that instead of assigning blame, it was important to concentrate on finding answers to the problems facing Ghana’s sports and called for the full cooperation as well as support of all stakeholders to improve all sporting activity.
