The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) Bibiani branch has launched a fire safety audit/inspection in Bibiani, following recent fire outbreaks in public buildings across the country.
The audit/inspection aims to identify potential fire hazards, defects, and areas for improvement in various agencies within Bibiani Municipality.
As part of the audit/inspection, the GNFS team, led by Assistant Divisional Officer Grade I David Azumah, inspected Melcom Ghana Limited Bibiani branch.
He emphasized the importance of the audit, stating that it is crucial for ensuring adequate fire safety measures are in place. He appealed to property owners and the public to collaborate with fire safety inspectors to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations.
The Bibiani Melcom branch manager, Edem Ahianu, expressed gratitude for the exercise, noting that it had highlighted the need for specific types of fire extinguishers.
He encouraged other institutions to allow the GNFS to conduct similar audits, which could help reduce the number of fire cases recorded annually.
The GNFS plays a critical role in preventing and managing fires, as outlined in the Ghana National Fire Service Act, 1997, Act 537. The service’s objectives include providing adequate protection of life and property, as well as sensitizing and providing technical assistance to institutions nationwide on fire safety measures.
By conducting regular fire safety audits, the GNFS can help identify potential hazards and prevent fires from occurring. This proactive approach is essential in reducing the risk of fire outbreaks and protecting lives and property.
