Parliament’s outreach initiative, dubbed “Outreach Bus”, seeking to sustain efforts in taking Parliament closer to the people has reached out to Pentecost University to connect lawmakers with their constituents.
Speaking on the theme “demystifying the role of Parliament” the Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Anyaa Sowutuom, Hon. Emmanuel Tobbin, educated the academic community on the importance of citizen participation in governance.
He outlined avenues for involvement, such as voting, petitioning Parliament, submitting proposals, joining committee discussions, and engaging directly with MPS.
Hon. Philis Naa Koryoo Okunor, MP for Awutu Senya East, shed light on the role of Parliament in Ghana’s democracy, explaining its legislative functions, representation, deliberation, financial control, oversight, and problem resolution. Mr. Benjamin Tachie-Antiedu, a Principal Assistant Clerk in charge of legislation, exposed the students to the inner workings of parliamentary committees, where about 80% of parliamentary business occurs.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Apostle Professor Kwabena Agyapong-Kodua, expressed gratitude to Parliament for reaching out to the institution and proudly announced the numerous achievements attained by the school in recent years as it continues to contribute to the development of youth for national progress.
The author of the book, Reading the Law, Mr Tachie Antiedu, donated two copies of his books to the Law faculty of the University.
