In collaboration with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the Parliament of Ghana has launched a transformative three-day workshop to strengthen the leadership capacity of female Members of Parliament to accelerate the implementation of the Affirmative Action Act.
Delivering remarks on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin, Hon. Zuwera Mohammed Ibrahimah (MP for Salaga South and Vice Chair of the Women’s Caucus) urged participants to engage fully and rise above partisan lines in pursuit of national progress. “This is how we build a truly inclusive and equitable Ghana,” she said.
Key speakers, including NCCE Chairperson Kathleen Addy and UNDP’s Dr. Edward Appratsum, stressed the urgent need to dismantle systemic barriers that marginalise women in leadership. They also emphasised that real change requires more than laws; it demands action.
The Members viewed the workshop as timely and impactful while highlighting the ongoing challenges they face, including gender discrimination, a lack of funding for cyberbullying, and harmful stereotypes.
They urged the NCCE and civil society to enhance public education to normalise women’s leadership and maintain the momentum toward an inclusive Ghana.
