The Judicial Committee of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs has ruled that Owusu Daniel Dickson must cease presenting himself as the Omanhene of the Anum Traditional Council.
This decision follows a determination that Mr Dickson’s chieftaincy claims are without merit, as Okusiaku-Brempong Kumi Sasraku VII has been duly enstooled and recognised as the legitimate chief.
The Kyidomhene of the Anum Traditional Council, Nana Kolihue XI, filed an interlocutory injunction against supporters of Opanin Kwabena Ayesu and Okogyeman Nana Kwasi Anyane for acknowledging Dickson as the Omanhene.
A three-member committee, chaired by Nene Sackite II, ruled in favour of Okusiaku-Brempong Kumi Sasraku VII, restraining Mr Dickson from representing himself as the Paramount Chief of the Anum Traditional Area and barring his supporters from endorsing his claims.
Okusiaku-Brempong Kumi Sasraku VII was enstooled on 5th May and formally inducted into the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs on 13th July 2023, following the passing of Omanhene Appiah Kumi II, who reigned for 46 years.
Speaking to some chiefs of the Anum Traditional Area after the ruling, they expressed that the decision underscores the importance of respecting traditional institutions and processes. They believe it will bring unity and calmness to the area, highlighting the crucial role of the House of Chiefs in maintaining chieftaincy integrity in the region.
