The Presbyterian Church of Ghana has held a special church service in Akosombo to honour the Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko.
The service, held at the Rev. Fredrich Monninger Congregation where the Deputy Minister worships, was organized to acknowledge his contributions to the growth of the church and to pray for divine wisdom to guide him in his new role at the Finance Ministry.
Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, a third-term Member of Parliament , was appointed Deputy Minister of Finance by President John Dramani Mahama and assumed office in March this year.
Delivering the sermon, former Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Prof. J. O. Y. Mante, urged political leaders to uphold integrity, discipline, and strong moral character in the discharge of their duties. He advised them to work diligently for the nation and avoid seeking public office solely for personal gain.
“Leadership in this country has never been easy. When things get tough, remember your God. Do your best for your country. Don’t just sit there to enjoy the power,” the former Moderator told the Deputy Minister of Finance.
He also called on the Deputy Minister to spearhead environmental cleanliness campaigns within the Asuogyaman Constituency and work towards fostering peace and unity by serving as a Member of Parliament for all constituents, regardless of political affiliations.
In his address, Deputy Minister Thomas Ampem Nyarko reaffirmed the government’s commitment to stabilizing and strengthening the Ghana cedi to support economic growth and business development.
“We are not only stabilizing the cedi but strengthening it so that businesses can flourish and our economy can grow,” he said.
The local currency has recorded significant gains in recent weeks, with the interbank rate currently standing at GH¢12.39 to the US dollar — a major recovery from over GH¢16 earlier this year.

Policy Advisor at the Office of the Vice President, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who played a pivotal role in bringing Thomas Ampem Nyarko into politics, attributed the MP’s steady rise to hard work, humility, and a commitment to public service. He expressed confidence in the capabilities of the youngest cabinet formed under former President John Mahama.
A highlight of the occasion was an instant fundraising effort, where Hon. Thomas Ampem Nyarko, Ningo-Prampram MP Sam George, and other government appointees raised GH¢450,000 to support 400 needy but brilliant tertiary students in the area. The donation followed an appeal by the former Moderator during the service.
Various groups in the Church presented the Deputy Minister of Finance with citations and other honours.
The event brought together several dignitaries including Members of Parliament, government appointees, traditional leaders such as the Akwamumanhene, Odeneho Kwarfo Akoto III, family, friends, and members of the Akosombo community.
