Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh has indicated that the previous government’s Agenda 111 was a political trap set by Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s administration.
He said that the previous administration had no plans to finish the facilities.
When he said this during an interview on Woezor TV.
“Agenda 111 was a political trap that was set by the previous administration. I was ranking member, and I said then that the government had no intentions to complete any 111 hospitals. It was just a trap,” he said.
The government has been urged to finish the hospitals that the previous administration started, but the health minister has made it clear that this will be challenging.
Social media users have questioned why hospitals, which are in different stages of completion, have been neglected by the government.
Many believe that since they would enhance the current facilities, concerns about the condition of the hospitals must be addressed with the necessary urgency.
Agenda 111 was a major Ghanaian government project launched in 2020 to establish 111 modern district, regional, and psychiatric hospitals around the country in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, improving universal healthcare access. It aimed to address the paucity of hospitals in more than 100 regions by providing 60-100-bed facilities.
