The Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana (CFA-Ghana) has called for the dissolution of Licensed Cocoa Buying Companies (LBCs), alleging that some of them are being used as political tools rather than serving the interests of cocoa farmers.
According to the President of CFA-Ghana, Nana Oboadie Bonsu, certain LBC operators are actively involved in partisan politics, a situation he believes undermines the growth and development of the cocoa sector.
Speaking on Adekyee Musem Morning Show with Kwamina Sam Biney, Nana Oboadie urged the government to revoke the licenses of LBCs found to be engaging in political activities.
He argued that the operations of some LBCs have negatively affected cocoa farmers and hindered efforts to improve the sector.
The CFA-Ghana President also called on the government to implement strategic measures to revive the Produce Buying Company (PBC), which he described as a key institution in Ghana’s cocoa marketing system.
Nana Oboadie commended the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) for its collaboration with cocoa farmers’ associations in implementing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of farmers across the country.
He further praised the management of COCOBOD for maintaining cocoa prices, noting that the move has helped support cocoa farmers amid economic challenges.
