The Kwahu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Osei Bonsu Effah, has announced the posting of two teachers to the newly renamed Dr. Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah ICT Centre to support practical teaching and learning of Information Technology .
According to the MCE, the move forms part of efforts to operationalise the facility and enhance digital education in the municipality.
“I have engaged the Municipal Director of Education, and two teachers have been posted to the ICT Centre. They will serve as permanent staff, and we are also considering the addition of National Service personnel to further strengthen operations,” he stated.

He explained that the presence of dedicated staff will ensure that students who visit the centre receive proper guidance in areas such as information technology, coding, and artificial intelligence (AI).
“We expect students to acquire practical skills and come out with expertise in IT, coding, AI, and other areas within the ICT field,” he added.
The ICT facility was initiated between 2015 and 2016 by the late Dr. Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah, who served as Minister for Communications at the time.
The project was aimed at providing digital learning opportunities for residents of Obomeng and surrounding communities.

The centre was officially commissioned on January 4, 2017, and subsequently handed over to the Ghana Education Service for management.
The facility was renamed during Easter from Obomeng ICT Centre to Dr. Edward Kofi Omane-Boamah ICT Centre by the Municipal Assembly in consultation with traditional authorities in honour of late Dr.Omane Boamah who died together with six others in August 2025 during helicopter crash while enroute to Obuase for official state function.
President John Dramani Mahama,Chief of Staff Julius Debrah,Eastern Regional Minister Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, werre present at the brief ceremony which also saw the unvailing of a bust in honour of the late Dr.Omane Boamah.
Mr. Effah explained that the renaming was done to honour the late minister for his contributions to both the community and the country.
“He was a native of Obomeng and the brain behind this initiative. We cannot allow his legacy to fade,” he noted.
He added that beyond serving as Communications Minister, Dr. Omane-Boamah also held other key national roles, including Minister for Defence, making his contributions worthy of recognition.
The Municipal Assembly believes the renaming will preserve his legacy while inspiring future generations to pursue excellence in the field of ICT.
Meanwhile, the mother of the late Dr. Omane Boamah, Leticia Asante, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the government and the people of Kwahu Obomeng for the honour bestowed on her son.
The renaming of the centre and the unveiling of the bust serve as a lasting tribute to Dr. Omane Boamah’s legacy and his commitment to advancing technology and communication in Ghana.
