MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its long – term commitment to Ghana whiles celebrating three(3) decades of operations using its 2026 Media and Stakeholders Forum to strengthen engagement with journalists within the Central and Western regions, industry regulators, and institutional partners.
A Forum held on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Western Serene Atlantic Hotel in Tarkoradi, brought together media practitioners from the Western and Central Regions under the theme “30 Years of Progress, Powered by You.”
The event formed part of MTN Ghana’s Nationwide 30th Anniversary Celebrations and served as a platform for the telecommunication giant to provide updates on its operational performance, strategic priorities and social impact, while receiving feedback from stakeholders on improving service delivery.
A major highlight of the forum was MTN Ghana’s response to concerns over whether the company could one day exit the Ghanaian market due to the recurring allegations of xenophobic attacks on Ghanaians and other Foreign Nationals in South Africa.
Responding to a question from the media, the company’s Chief Internal Audit and Forensic Officer, Michael Gbewonyo, firmly dismissed any such possibility, stressing that MTN remains deeply rooted in Ghana.
“Based on MTN’s contribution to Ghanaian society, the number of people we employ directly and indirectly, and the countless activities we support, it is clear that MTN is invested in Ghana.
We are a pan-African organisation, so please disabuse your minds of the notion that one day you will wake up and MTN will be gone.
We are not going anywhere, that is our commitment,” he declared.
Delivering the keynote address, Micheal Gbewonyo said MTN’s three decades of success had been built on the trust, loyalty and support of its customers, employees, partners and stakeholders.
“Our journey has never been one we have undertaken alone.
Every mile we have covered was powered by our customers, our partners, our communities, our employees and stakeholders who have supported and shaped our growth over the years,” he said.
Reflecting on Ghana’s digital transformation, he noted that communication has evolved dramatically over the past three decades.
He recalled a time when making a telephone call between Tarkoradi and Cape Coast required waiting for an available telephone line and carefully monitoring every minute.
“Today, business owners can hold virtual meetings, traders can instantly verify Mobile Money transactions, and students can access educational resources with just a few taps on their smartphones,” he said.
Mr. Gbewonyo noted that MTN Ghana has played a pivotal role in Ghana’s digital transformation by connecting millions of people, expanding digital access and promoting financial inclusion through technology and innovation.
He emphasised that the company’s continued growth is anchored on trust and accountability.
“Progress is not only about growth; it is about trust. As we launch new services, expand our reach and serve more customers, we do so responsibly, transparently and with our customers at the centre,” he stressed.
He further disclosed that MTN contributes approximately six per cent of Ghana’s total tax revenue while continuing to invest significantly in the country’s digital future.
Highlighting the impact of the MTN Ghana Foundation, Mr. Gbewonyo said the Foundation has awarded scholarships to thousands of students and invested in education, healthcare and economic empowerment initiatives across the country.
“We are proud of these achievements not because of the size of our business, but because of the impact we have made together,” he said, describing MTN as “a force for good” committed to Ghana’s long-term development.
He also commended journalists and media organisations for their role in promoting accountability and informing the public, thanking them for their continued partnership with MTN over the years.
“We do not take this partnership lightly. It is because of your support, trust and partnership that we have been able to grow into the organisation we are today,” he said.
The forum also featured the presentation of awards to selected media practitioners in recognition of their professionalism, dedication and longstanding partnership with MTN Ghana.
As MTN Ghana celebrates its 30th anniversary, the company says it remains committed to strengthening stakeholder partnerships, expanding digital inclusion and creating greater opportunities for individuals, businesses and communities across Ghana.
