The Ghana Gold Board Taskforce has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against illegal gold trading, arresting 10 Chinese nationals suspected of smuggling gold in the Western Region.

The operation, conducted in Asankragua, resulted in the seizure of 1.3 kilograms of gold worth approximately GHS 1.4 million, GHS 1.3 million in cash, and casino cards.

According to the Gold Board’s CEO, Sammy Gyamfi, the arrest marks a crucial step in enforcing the Gold Board Act, which prohibits foreigners from engaging in local gold trading to protect Ghanaian miners and the economy.

This was disclosed by the Acting Managing Director of the Ghana Goldbod Lawyer Sammy Gyamfi in a press interaction.
