In an interview with Kwahu Dehyie on Bryt fm, Mr. Richard Kumador, a security consultant has raised some issues concerning security apparatus on the morning show, Adekyee Mu Nsem.
The discussion centered on security issues raised during the NPP’s press conference held on Wednesday August 27, in relation to the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
Mr. Kumador explained that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has assured the nation of effective security measures for the election. According to the IGP, about 5,000 police officers and armored bullion vans will be deployed to Akwatia. With 119 polling stations in the constituency, Mr. Kumador noted that even if 30 officers are assigned to each station, peace and order would likely be maintained.
He further revealed that in July, the police carried out a security assessment exercise in Akwatia.
Just last week, officers arrested some individuals and retrieved firearms from the area as part of their preparation.
However, Mr. Kumador stressed that the success of the election does not depend solely on the police. He emphasized that the Electoral Commission must effectively discharge its duties, the police must ensure safety at polling centers, and politicians must act responsibly to guarantee a peaceful process.
He also acknowledged that discrepancies may arise, but expressed confidence that adequate measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth election.
He concluded by assuring residents of the Constituency of peace and tranquility during the Akwatia by-election.
