Spokesperson and Head of Communications at the Ministry of Energy, Mr. Richmond Rockson, said the government has made significant progress in reviving Ghana’s petroleum sector after years of dormancy.
Speaking with Nana Yaw Obeng on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem, Mr. Rockson explained that since January, the Ministry has been working to strengthen activities in oil drilling, exploration, and production. He noted that for nearly eight years, the sector was “almost dormant,” leading to investor dissatisfaction due to government policies and directives.
He revealed that some major oil companies are still in court with the government, while Ghana has faced arbitration cases.
According to him, President John Mahama had earlier directed that such disputes be resolved to allow for a restart of the sector.
Mr. Rockson emphasized that under the leadership of Energy Minister Dr. George Jinapor, efforts have been focused on ensuring the sector regains stability.
He added that several well-established international companies, with decades of experience, technology, and financial strength, have shown renewed interest in Ghana’s oil market, citing DNI as one of them.
