The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Eric Opoku, has paid a working visit to the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Frank Amoakohene, as part of his nationwide stakeholder engagement tour to assess ongoing agricultural initiatives and strengthen collaboration with regional authorities.
The visit, which took place at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, focused on government’s renewed commitment to revitalizing Ghana’s agricultural sector, improving food security, and empowering farmers across the country.
Hon. Eric Opoku emphasized the significant role the Ashanti Region plays in national food production and praised the region’s farmers for their resilience and contribution to the cocoa, livestock, and staple crop sectors. He also highlighted ongoing government interventions to boost productivity, including access to improved seeds, fertilizer support, mechanization services, and investments in irrigation.
“The Ashanti Region is critical to Ghana’s agricultural development agenda. We are working closely with local authorities to remove bottlenecks and ensure that farmers receive the needed support to increase yields and profitability,” the Minister stated.
For his part, Hon. Frank Amoakohene expressed appreciation for the visit and assured the Agriculture Minister of the region’s commitment to supporting government policies aimed at transforming the agricultural space. He noted that strengthening partnerships between regional and national agricultural agencies would help address challenges such as post-harvest losses, farm road infrastructure, and market accessibility.
The working visit also allowed the Minister to review progress on some flagship agricultural programmes and engage with key stakeholders including farmer groups, officials of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, and traditional authorities.
The visit marks another step in the ministry’s effort to ensure that agricultural modernization efforts are aligned with regional needs and realities as government seeks to create more jobs, grow the economy, and ensure food availability nationwide.
