Former Hearts of Oak board secretary Ernest Thompson has likened the Phobians to Spanish giants Real Madrid.
His comment stem from the club’s recent recruitment strategy, claiming it does not reflect on the club’s stature.
According to him, the Ghanaian giants should be signing top-quality players capable of delivering silverware, just like Real Madrid.
“Hearts of Oak is like a Real Madrid. It’s not a team you go all the way down to pick journeymen to come and play. You can pick a few from below, but you need to invest in key players,” he said.
“When push comes to shove, you must have players like Ishmael Addo, Emmanuel Osei Kuffour, and Charles Taylor who can change games. You don’t see that in the current team.”
Thompson was part of the club’s leadership during its golden era that produced the 2000 CAF Champions League triumph.
