The Ashanti Bekwai Circuit Court has sentenced a 26-year-old shoemaker, Kwame Owusu Ansah, to 36 months’ imprisonment with hard labour after he pleaded guilty to charges of unlawful entry and stealing.
The presiding judge, His Honour Mr. Isaac Apietu, convicted the accused based on his own plea after the prosecution presented the facts of the case.
Kwame Owusu Ansah was charged on two counts: Count One – Unlawful Entry, and Count Two – Stealing.
Presenting the brief facts, the prosecutor, Detective Inspector Eric Okyere, told the court that the complainant, Osei Priscilla, a trader who was nine months pregnant, resides at Asanso, a suburb of Ashanti Bekwai, the same community as the accused.
According to the prosecution, on 13th December 2025, the complainant fell asleep in her room while waiting for her husband to return from town. At about 1:00 a.m. on 14th December 2025, she woke up after hearing unusual noises in her room and saw the accused standing inside, holding a black Acer laptop valued at GH₵2,000.00, belonging to her husband, and her Samsung Galaxy A06 mobile phone valued at GH₵2,100.00.
The complainant raised an alarm, prompting the accused to flee with the laptop, the mobile phone, and cash amounting to GH₵8,500.00, which had been kept on a television stand in the room.
A report was immediately lodged with the Ashanti Bekwai Police, and the accused was later arrested while on his way from Asanso to Bekwai Township, with the complainant’s Samsung Galaxy A06 found in his pocket.
A subsequent search conducted in the accused person’s room at Asanso led to the recovery of the stolen Acer laptop, which had been concealed in a bag hidden under his bed.
After investigations, Kwame Owusu Ansah was formally charged and arraigned before the court. He pleaded guilty after the prosecution presented the facts, leading to his conviction and sentencing.
