The Black Stars has set sights on replicating their 2010 historic World Cup feat as the team gears up for the 2026 edition to be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The global showpiece to be co-hosted in North America will feature an expanded 48-team format, with Ghana securing one of Africa’s nine automatic slots.
Speaking in an interview, the Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum stressed the team ultimate target is to reach the quarterfinal of the World Cup.
“Our target for the World Cup is to qualify from the group stage and be competitive. We want to fight, we have the quality, and we believe we can match our quarter-final appearance and possibly go even further,” he told Akoma FM.
“Following the Qatar 2022 World Cup, we strengthened the technical team. The coach has requested some new additions, and the FA is currently working on them. However, the individuals involved are under contract with their respective employers, making it difficult to disclose names at this time.”
Drawn in Group L, Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, meet England in Boston, and wrap up the group stage against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.
