The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben South,Hon. Ransford Owusu Boakye, on Thursday paid a familiarisation visit to several market centres in the municipality to interact with traders and assess conditions firsthand.
The visit took the MCE and his entourage to the Juaben Serwaa Market, Argatha Market, Beads Market, and Adweso Market.
According to Hon.Owusu Boakye, although leadership of the various markets had been engaging him at his office, he considered it necessary to visit the markets personally to interact directly with traders and listen to their concerns.
He assured the market women and traders that the President John Mahama–led government is committed to giving the Koforidua Central Market a major facelift to improve trading conditions and boost economic activity.
The MCE also called on traders to ensure that the current positive economic indicators are reflected in the pricing of goods, urging fairness in pricing for the benefit of consumers.
Additionally, he cautioned traders against acts that could lead to fire outbreaks in the markets.
The MCE announced that the Argatha Market has been earmarked for the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Market, adding that sod-cutting is expected to take place next week to officially hand over the site to the contractor for commencement of work.

He urged traders to cooperate fully with the contractor to ensure smooth execution of the project.
Out of excitement, some of the traders started singing praises to President John Dramani Mahama showing strong commitment to fulfiling his promise.
Traders who interacted with the MCE commended him for the visit and appealed for the installation of streetlights at the Central Market as well as urgent measures to address flooding problems caused by choked drains.
Some traders also raised concerns about colleagues who have abandoned their market sheds to sell along the roadside, calling for enforcement to restore order.
In appreciation of the visit, beads sellers at the Beads Market presented the MCE with precious beads, symbolising their gratitude and support.
