Twenty nine Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies across the Greater Accra Region have received a major boost in their capacity to manage environmental sanitation.
On Monday, February 9, 2026, a significant consignment of cleaning tools including 550 waste bins, 1,000 shovels, and hundreds of wheelbarrows was officially handed over to local authorities.
This distribution ensures that every district in the capital is now better equipped to handle both daily sanitation needs and emergency interventions such as desilting and flood prevention.
On behalf of the Sector Minister, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim, the Deputy Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, Hon. Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, led the handover ceremony.
She emphasized that providing these resources is a key part of the government’s strategy to strengthen local governance.
By placing these tools directly in the hands of the assemblies, the government is ensuring that sanitation policies are backed by the practical means to keep our streets clean and our communities healthy.
