A member of the NDC’s Ayawaso East Investigative Committee, Inusah Fuseini, has cautioned against reacting hastily to alleged irregularities in the constituency’s parliamentary primaries, asking whether wrongdoing should be addressed “by acting wrongly.”
Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Mr. Fuseini revealed that the party’s internal probe into the Ayawaso East primaries uncovered widespread vote buying and inducement, stressing that the findings did not single out any particular candidate.
“We came to the conclusion that there was widespread illegality. I mean, the vote buying and inducement, and it was not limited to one candidate,” he said.
His remarks follow growing calls from some Ghanaians and members within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to cancel the victory of eventual winner Baba Jamal, amid allegations that he engaged in inducement during the primary.
Mr. Fuseini described the events in the constituency as serious violations of both national laws and the party’s own standards, noting that the acts contravened the Political Parties Act, the Representation of the People’s Act (CI 127), the Criminal Code, and provisions of the Constitution. He added that the conduct also breached the NDC’s code of ethics, values, and philosophy.
He urged the party to carefully consider its response, warning against actions that could themselves undermine due process.
“Do you deal with impunity by acting with impunity? Do you deal with a wrong by acting wrongly?” he asked, calling for a measured and lawful approach to resolving the dispute.
