The Eastern Regional Director of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), Anita Owusu-Kuffour, says the Authority is implementing initiatives to support local small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs), noting a steady increase in the number of products being registered in the region.
Speaking on Bryt Adekyee Mu Nsem with Kwamina Sam Biney, she said the FDA is committed to guiding local producers through the regulatory process while helping them improve their standards.
“We are here to support you. If you look at the products on our database, you will notice that the number of products being registered in the region continues to increase,” she stated.
Mrs Owusu – Kuffour clarified that the FDA has launched programs to increase manufacturers’ visibility and market access as part of efforts to promote locally produced goods.
She disclosed that, in partnership with the retail business Melcom Group, the Authority recently introduced the Bio Ghana Lab Ghana flagship program.
She added that the collaboration has made it possible for locally produced goods to be shown in stores, increasing their visibility and consumer accessibility.
“During the launch, we engaged them and they provided space where locally manufactured products can be showcased so they can easily be seen and accessed by consumers,” she said.
She noted that such initiatives form part of broader efforts by the FDA to strengthen Ghana’s local industry by supporting small businesses to meet regulatory standards and expand their market reach.
