The Member of Parliament for Akim Oda, Hon. Alexander Akwasi Acquah, has leveled serious allegations against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Birim Central, Hon. Solomon Brako Kusi, accusing him of participating in illegal mining activities, popularly known as “Galamsey.”
Speaking on Bryt Adekyee Musem Show on Bryt fm, the lawmaker stated categorically that his relationship with the MCE has soured due to these alleged unlawful acts. Hon. Acquah revealed that he has repeatedly raised concerns regarding the MCE’s involvement in illegal mining for some time, yet the MCE has reportedly refused to desist from the practice.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his commitment to tackling illegal mining, calling for stronger collaboration with Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), activists, and the public.
The President urged stakeholders to continue applying pressure on the government to act decisively against galamsey. He assured that he would continue to push relevant authorities to deliver on their mandate in the fight against illegal mining.
“I’m determined. We need your support, your criticism, your advocacy, and your pressure. Continue to hold us accountable as we work together to win this fight,” said President John Mahama.
