Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has indicated that the party will reject the government’s attempts to stifle free expression.
He made this statement following the arrest of Agona West Organizer David Essandoh.
Essandoh was allegedly apprehended by unidentified guys after being linked to a social media post concerning power shortages, commonly referred to as “dumsor.”
Speaking on Joy News and, Nana B suggested the incident reflected a worrying pattern.
“We are not going to take such suppression of free speech,” he said.
The NPP official compared the matter to previous incidents involving political commentary and arrests.
“It’s been the trend. Look at the Baba Amando case. I can cite so many instances,” he added.
Nana B said the party had already begun making official reports and planned to follow every lead connected to the disappearance of the organizer.
“The invitation first came from the CID headquarters, so that is where we are starting from,” he explained.
He acknowledged that the parties did not yet know precisely who had picked up Essandoh, but he maintained that the earlier police invitation could not be disregarded.
“At least we have a lead. The lead is that there was an invitation,” he stated.
Nana B also called on authorities to clarify the situation quickly and ensure due process is followed.
