The President of the Concerned Farmers Association, Nana Oboadia Bonsu II, has expressed concern over the challenges facing rice farmers across the country, particularly the devastating impact of heavy rains on rice production.
Speaking on Bryt FM’s Adekyee Mu Nsem programme, Nana Oboadia Bonsu II said he has been closely monitoring developments in the rice farming sector and noted that many farmers are struggling due to adverse weather conditions.
According to him, several rice farms in parts of the Ashanti and Western regions have been severely affected by excessive rainfall, resulting in significant losses for farmers.
He explained that some rice crops have been submerged by floodwaters, causing the grains to germinate prematurely before harvesting, thereby reducing both the quality and quantity of produce.
Nana Oboadia Bonsu II stressed that the situation is creating serious difficulties for rice farmers and called for urgent interventions to support affected farmers and safeguard the country’s food security.
He urged authorities to pay closer attention to the challenges confronting farmers and develop measures to help them recover from the losses caused by the rains.
