Concerned Farmers Association of Ghana has criticised what it describe as the increasing politicisation of the launch of the 2026 National Farmers’ Day celebration, warning that the event should remain focused on recognising the contributions of farmers and advancing agricultural development.
Speaking to Kwamina Sam Biney on Adekyem Mu Nsem morning show, the President of the association, Nana Oboadie Bonsu, expressed disappointment over the manner in which the annual event was launched.
According to him, he was unaware that the 2026 National Farmers’ Day celebration had already been officially launched, insisting that the event should not be turned into a political platform.
Nana Oboadie Bonsu argued that the Ministry of Food and Agriculture should concentrate on its core mandate of formulating policies and implementing programmes that improve agricultural production and enhance the welfare of farmers across the country.
He maintained that political interference in the agricultural sector shifts attention away from the real challenges confronting farmers, ultimately affecting productivity and the growth of the sector.
The farmers’ leader stressed that National Farmers’ Day was instituted to honour the hard work and sacrifices of Ghanaian farmers and should therefore remain free from partisan interests.
The Ministry of Food and Agriculture officially launched the 42nd National Farmers’ Day celebration on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the ministry’s forecourt in Accra.
The Concern Farmers Association of Ghana reiterated its call on stakeholders to preserve the integrity of the annual celebration by ensuring it remains dedicated solely to recognising farmers and promoting agricultural development.
