The Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim (MP), has called for stronger international partnerships and innovative climate financing to accelerate Africa’s transition to a circular economy.
Delivering the keynote address at the 2nd Korea–Africa Environmental Cooperation Forum in Accra, the Minister highlighted Ghana’s significant strides in sustainable waste management, including the establishment of more than 50 waste treatment and resource recovery facilities and its recognition as the West Africa Waste Management Hub.
He stressed that although Africa contributes less than four percent of global greenhouse gas emissions, it remains among the regions most vulnerable to climate change, making increased investment in climate-resilient infrastructure an urgent priority.
Hon. Ahmed Ibrahim reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to working with the Republic of Korea and other partners to mobilise climate finance, strengthen carbon markets, create jobs and build cleaner, more resilient communities across Africa.
