The Municipal health director at Nkawkaw in the Kwahu West Municipality of the Eastern Region, Celestina Asante, has stated that a six-month-old baby has contracted the deadly COVID-19 disease at Nkawkaw.
She said this in an interview with Abena Opokua Ahwenee, host of Efa Wo Ho on Dadi 101.1 FM and according to her other children as young as one have also been infected.
“We’re talking about six-month-old baby. Others are one and two years, and strangely their mothers are negative.”
She added: “This should tell you that we have to be mindful about those we leave our babies with during these unusual times. We have to be careful in the community, especially those we ask to take care of our children
“The community spread is becoming an issue, we must all do our best to help stop the spread of the disease. For the adults, their age range is between 25 to 50 years. Thankfully, they are all in a stable condition and most of them are asymptomatic.
“Our major issue now is behavioral change and we’re appealing to everyone to wear the mask. That is our surest bet now to contain the spread.”
The district is currently battling with 30 confirmed coronavirus cases as Ghana puts in efforts to stop the spread of the disease. At the moment two persons have recovered in the Municipality.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases in the Eastern region have jumped from 214 as of Friday to 235 Sunday, June 14, 2020.The Ghana Health Service has announced.
One more person has died of COVID-19 in the region bringing the total number of confirmed deaths to three (3).
The latest fatality occurred on June 12, 2020. The deceased was among patients on admission at the Covid-19 treatment center in the region.
The first death recorded was a Senior Police officer who died on May 29, 2020, while a health worker also died a few days ago.
Currently, eighteen (18) of thirty-three (33) districts/Municipalities in the region have recorded cases.
New Juaben South, Kwahu West, and Akuapem North are the hotspots areas.
