Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua (ERHK) has introduced a bar-coded PVC Plastic Patient Identification Card to face out the paper Patient ID cards.
The Hospital piloted the program during the scourge of Coronavirus Pandemic to reduce touching of patients ID cards to curb is spread infections among staff and clients.
According to the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Arko Akoto Ampaw, the barcode technology would help prevent medical errors by providing detailed and reliable information in the site of patient care, and improve the paperless folder system.
He said this during interaction with the media in Koforidua. The media encounter is an annual event instituted by the Hospital to account to the public on operations of the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua recorded a 15.6% decline in OPD attendance from January to June this year as a result of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The total daily OPD attendance declined from 886 to 748 which cumulated to 71,663 during the period under review as compared to 84,669 the same period in 2019 and 77,076 in 2018.
However, overall admissions increased by 10.4% with daily admissions rise from 52 to 57.
This was made known by the Medical Director of the Hospital, Dr. Arko Akoto Ampaw during an encounter with the media in Koforidua.
He said the average length of stay of admitted patients at the hospital increased from four to five days.
